the second release on tb arthurs (312) label finds the mysterious artist revealing a collaborative project with magda as blotter trax. the pair first encountered each other at the famous motor city record store record time, when detroit artist bmg introduced his then co-workers magda and derek plaslaiko to arthur, who was visiting the shop from chicago. sometime after that meeting, magda and arthur went into the studio and jammed together for a week, the session was recorded live on analog 1/4 tape and then three tracks were selected for release. 1a is six and a half minutes of modulated synth sounds that are psyched out and sci-fi, spooky and truly atmospheric. full of cerebral cinematism, acid lines and ghoulish textures all add up to a truly standout track. 2a then marries dark wave pops and clicks, unsettling alien lifeforms and menacing, slo motion industrial drums into a physical and imposing groover riddled with paranoid sirens and drones. last of all, 2b snakes and slithers its way through undulating drums, cosmic freakiness and gloopy synth sounds that are all seductive and subversive in equal measure. this, then, is a truly fascinating pairing.

kindred spirits boards of canada and teebs make an appearance in dreamy collaboration with odd nosdam s sisters remix ep. throughout, the producers split time between cosmic, slow burning beats and reflective soundscapes littered with intriguing textures and mind-bending samples. analogue sounds are generous and knowingly manipulated. gorgeous samples are deployed, sturdy yet emotional. cymbals explode. when the sun finally breaks through on an overcast day, sisters was very much inspired by that wonderful moment and the longing for it.

opening track the promise is a 909-riddled voyage, moving through raw grooves and melancholic, filtered synth work. cosmic chords and a strong bassline drives the offering steadily into moody club music territory while, on the ep flip, dubbed out zora on holds a probing melody that whips against rolling pads and restrained vocals. nostalgic and effervescent, undertone closes the release beautifully, with clean keys and organic, twinkling percussion making for perfect for all day and night listening.

bastinov is back on etruria beat with his new space programmer ep the main title starts with an hypnotic synth sequence on a 909 based beat driving thru some drony sounds. cosmic comes next with fat arpeggios, driving the song with melancholic vibes. on the flip side roberto clementi takes the title track into darker zones with some distorted elements and drones. last comes regis, a detroit influence track which reminds you of the glory days of the motor city.

the labelhead resoe returns with a 3 track ep that contains a remix of cosmic blast by berghain resident norman nodge (mdr/ostgut ton) on the a side resoe delivers a floor mover with fat moving bass and dusty chords that for sure packs the floor. the first track on the b side norman nodge gives cosmic blast his trademark touch of dirty simple techno. the breakdown in the middle will make your woofers bleed!!!! the second track on the b side is a dub techno track with lots of elements from a 2 hour field recording resoe did in his backyard from the studio. the track builds up slowly and ends in a smooth groovy atmosphere.

entering with “cruising into the storm”, a raw synth and bass propelled work-out, moda squeezes energy in ounces into a midnight ready and sweat thirsty call to action. channelling his gang starr influences, break-beats are dug, dusted off and sampled onto “4 my people”. crackling joyfully and reminiscent of the 90s, a2 is not failing.

fabrizio martina, the man behind jolly mare, is a champion turntablist, with a master degree in mechanical engineering and a phd in vibration dynamics under his belt. he s currently a full time producer and dj, taking part in festivals across europe from sonar to harvey s discotheque stage at bestival. a graduate of red bull music academy in new york, he has opened acts from masters at work to roy ayers, worked with the likes of soul clap and thundercat, and has already been featured in the likes of pitchfork, mixmag and okayplayer with his dream-like brand of cosmic disco and house.
